MOVIE REVIEW:
After two sensational instalments on the Disney Channel and blazing sales of DVDs, the High School Musical saga finally comes to a grand conclusion with "High School Musical 3: Senior Year".
But wait a second, what in the first place is High School Musical? Dancing kids churned out by the Disney label isn’t exactly a familiar property with mature movie-goers. However, just ask any pre-teens or kiddos on the streets who are glued to the Disney Channel and I’m sure they will tell you more about the antics of Troy (Zac Efron), Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens), Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale), her twin brother Ryan (Lucas Grabeel) and Troy’s buddy Chad (Corbin Bleu).
Anyway, the East High students are graduating soon and they are faced with the prospects of their future (who doesn’t?). College plans, dreams, romance, friendship and also staging their own musical to leave East High on a high note. In a nutshell, this is what HSM3 is all about.
The production here is lavish as compared to the prior instalments. Given a higher budget, director and choreographer Kenny Ortega indeed does wonders to the musical numbers and stage props etc. Particularly two sequences which will catch your attention and have you taping your toes, Sharpay and Ryan’s "I Want It All" which has all the grandeur of a Broadway production and Troy/Chad’s energetic display of dance chops in "The Boys Are Back".
Although I still cringe at the lovey-dovey duets by (read: real-life couple) Troy and Gabriella’s rooftop display of affection in "Right Here, Right Now" for example and other countless cheesy moments which contributes nothing but prolonging the movie’s running time for more musical numbers.
As to why this DVD is labelled as an extended edition, it’s an additional of a deleted sequence from the theatrical version. HSM3 is worth a look for all the glossy dance numbers, catchy song and elaborate choreography. And yes, all those innocent puppy love and encouraging themes are definitely PG material for the younger ones.
When the credits rolled, you got a feeling that Zac Efron has finally 'graduated' from the small screen. He is the next young star after Leonardo DiCaprio to watch out for in recent years.

The visual and audio of HSM3 is excellent. Colours are vivid, popping and fairly sharp. The Dolby Digital 5.1 mix is dynamic. The lyrics and accompanied music can be heard clearly as well.
